Poor communication skills can make you look and sound bad.

How many times have you stumbled in your personal and professional life because of ineffective communication skills? Can you remember when poor communication cost you a job, a relationship and maybe even your health?

Why are our general communication skills so bad these days?

Because on one hand our verbal communication has been taken over by email, text and social media. On the other hand, our ability to practice written communication is prevalent because of our access and need to communicate electronically. Either way, we have to be aware of how our communication is being received.

Are you aware of how effective / ineffective you are when it comes to communication?

Being aware of your strength and or weakness with communication skills is key. Many times, we know when our communication is not working from experiencing our results. Maybe people seem uninterested when you speak or maybe you find yourself in a constant argument with people. Maybe you notice that people are naturally drawn to you and want to stay in a conversation with you. Being aware of your communication results are key.

Good communication is a learn-able skillset.

I was able to obtain good communication skills through books, workshops and more importantly practice. I wasn’t a naturally effective communicator and the pain of failure got to me especially when I entered college. My desire for dating motivated me to improve. Discomfort can be a motivating factor when you want something.

How can you start to improve your communication results immediately?

The short podcast and video below will provide you with some additional tips and ideas on how to improve your communication results.

Are you ready to train? Three things to get you started:

1) Here is your Practice Gym Podcast Episode 004. It is less than 12 mins and will give you a sense of how a podcast looks, sounds and feels. In May, you will be able to automatically download each weekly episode via ITunes for Apple devices and Stitcher and or Google Play for Android devices. I listen to several hours of podcasts each week and I’m guessing you will as well.

2) Here is the  video clip that will give you a quick overview of what to expect in video format. My goal is to expand your video options as we move forward.

3) Remember that this whole process is rooted in constant improvement and or practice. Things will not work and or need to be changed so let me know what is working and what is not.

Have a great day and we’ll see you next week:))
